OPEN 9 AM-6 PM: The Glass Room: Deeply Personal

When we sign up for a service or register for an app, the personal data we give to companies is used to confirm or verify or identity. But the reason why that data is called personal also suggests that it could reveal something private, or intimate – things we don’t want to divulge to others. The art works here (a selection from The Glass Room exhibit), show how personal data can also be arbitrary, ephemeral, or misleading. They expand the usual notion of personal data by asking questions about how relevant and unique it is.

Textio is an AI-powered writing platform that helps hiring managers spot biased words and phrases as they’re drafting job listings and recruiting emails. Writers with Drinks

Writers With Drinks, San Francisco's longest-running (and nerdiest) reading series, is featuring tech journalism, science fiction, Incredibly Strange Music, and tons more. The New York Times tech journalist Mike Isaac reads from his brand-new book Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber. Also featuring Annalee Newitz, author of The Future of Another Timeline and V. Vale, creator of RE/Search Publications. Plus, Nathaniel Popkin (The Year of the Return), Malkia Cyril (Media Justice), and Aubrey Hirsch (Why We Never Talk About Sugar). Charlie Jane Anders hosts, with bios from an alternate timeline. Writers With Drinks is a spoken word "variety show" that refuses to stick to one genre, and you never know what to expect from this series (except for entertainment and enlightenment, natch.)

Please note: Drinks are not included. Cash bar available.
